Van de Beek and Greenwood start – Manchester United predicted line-up vs Leeds
Manchester United welcome Leeds United to Old Trafford on Saturday to begin their Premier League campaign.
United are looking to improve on their second-place finish from last season, which means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team will need to get off to a fast start this season.
Unfortunately, the United manager will not be selecting the starting lineup that he might have envisioned a few weeks ago, due to injury concerns, players coming late from international service, and signings not being finalized on time.
Solskjaer, on the other hand, has a plethora of options at his disposal as he attempts to lead his side to an opening day triumph.
Because Dean Henderson is still recovering from a case of Covid-19, Spaniard David de Gea will start in goal, and he will be trying to keep his No. 1 job for another season while his deputy is out.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka will play in the right back position, while Luke Shaw will play in the left back position. The much-talked-about midfield pairing of Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane, though, will not make their debut, as United are still to finalise the signing of the Frenchman, despite him passing his medical earlier this week.
Instead, Maguire, who scored in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Everton, is expected to be joined by Victor Lindelof.
Fred should start at the base of the midfield, with Donny van de Beek moving slightly forward and Bruno Fernandes moving even further forward.
Even though the England international is ready and raring to go following his big-money move from Borussia Dortmund last month, it is unlikely that every United fan will see their fantasy come true and witness Solskjaer hand new recruit Jadon Sancho a start. Given that he has not played a single minute since last month’s Euro 2020 final, he is expected to start on the bench.
With that in mind, it’s almost inevitable that Solskjaer will start Mason Greenwood on the right wing, with Anthony Martial providing support in the middle. Paul Pogba, who shone on the left flank last season, might start there.
